Composed in 1868 by Alphonse Piver for a Europe then enthralled by vanished civilizations — a name that doesn’t translate. Mandarin and cinnamon open warm; at the heart, rose, frankincense and leather lend the scent something almost ceremonial. Its real signature sits in the base: a natural vanilla that isn’t sweet so much as ambery, spicy and leathery, carried by amber and papyrus.
