David Benedek grew up in a Paris family that had been selling fragrance since the 1950s — Worth, Dior, a shop near the rue Royale. In 2016 he turned that inheritance into his own house, based at the Palais-Royal. The idea: a library of scent. Each bottle sits in a case like the spine of a book; lined up, they make a small encyclopedia. The amber-smoky Gris Charnel made BDK’s name overnight; the rest — leathery, floral, spiced — is just as Parisian, just as much a story. Made in France, the essences from Grasse.
