Classic Parisian perfumery in the tradition of the scented-glove makers.
When Jean Laporte founded L’Artisan Parfumeur in 1976, he was one of the pioneers of niche perfumery. In 1988 he started over with Maître Parfumeur et Gantier — “master perfumer and glover.” The name harks back to an old French guild: the gantiers-parfumeurs, who once perfumed leather gloves to mask the smell of tanning — and from this craft, French perfumery grew. The fragrances include Ambre Précieux, Patchouli 1969, and Grain de Plaisir.
