“We don’t make soaps, we make gifts.” Founder Aquiles Barros’s line sums Castelbel up. Founded near Porto in 1999, the house draws on Portugal’s soap tradition without pretending to an age it doesn’t have: triple-milled bars, each wrapped by hand in decorative paper, scented from white jasmine to almond and honey — plus candles, diffusers, and room sprays. The kind of thing too pretty to hide in a cupboard, and almost too pretty to keep for yourself.
